5 Reasons to Love Valentine's Day

For many people out there, Valentine's is a dreaded day. Reminding single people that they’re alone, and causing disappointment for couples with high expectations for the day. For me, Valentine's Day has always been a day to just celebrate love, whether it be with friends, family, or lovers. Here are 5 reasons why I absolutely love Valentine's Day!

1. It’s a day to Spoil the ones you love (or yourself)

The argument against Valentine's Day that annoys me the most is "why do you need one day to tell people you love them, you should be doing that everyday". No freaking duh, but by that logic, why celebrate your birthday or any other major holiday then? I just seems so cynical! Of course you should tell your loved ones you love them more than just one day a year, but it acts as a good reminder to celebrate those around you! You definitely don't need to be in a relationship to share the love. There are many types of love, and i'm sure you have someone in your life that you appreciate, and don't tell enough.

2. It's an excuse to dress up and go out on the town

Whether with a lover or with your friends and family, Valentine's Day is a great excuse to hit the town in your cutest outfit. I've enjoyed many romantic Valentine's dinners with my girlfriends and cousins. It doesn't really matter if you're in relationship, use the day to celebrate everyone you love!

4. Love is Amazing and It's Worth Celebrating and Sharing!

Even if you hate Valentine's Day, chances are you don't hate love. (If you do hate love.... I'm sorry??). There's always more love to share. Making people feel appreciated and valuable is probably the best thing you could do for another person. And you don't have to spend money to let someone know you appreciate them. Even a simple handmade card or a phone call, could really make someones day! Doing something for someone else has been scientifically proven to make you happier. It's a win-win situation, really. So, share the love!

3. All the treats!

New Years Resolutions have been in full swing for the past month, and by now, if you're like me, you're seriously craving those treats! Valentine's Day is the perfect excuse for a cheat day, one that you should never feel guilty about! So eat those cupcakes, and then after Valentine's Day jump back on your grind. You deserve it!

5. Galentine's Day

One of my absolute favorite Valentine's Day traditions is Galentine's Day. For those of you who don't know, Galentine's Day is a day for girlfriends to celebrate their friendship. A few years ago, my two best friends and I took a day trip to the Oregon Coast. We spent the whole day celebrating our friendship and it became one of the most meaningful days of my life. We made that day especially special because we were aware that we were celebrating our friendship; the love and happiness we felt that day was so pure and genuine. I think all friend groups should use Valentines day as a day to Celebrate friendship at least once!

No matter how you do it, I hope you decide to celebrate Valentines Day. Life moves pretty fast, and I hope you'll take every opportunity to live your best life. For me, that means celebrating love! Today and everyday. Happy Valentines Day from mine to yours!
